The Front Line of Awareness

You might allow yourself to notice some aspect of your environment with one of your senses. It could be tuning into the sound of the wind or cars in the distance, or looking at the shape and color of a leaf or the lines of a crack in the sidewalk,.. or discerning a specific savory taste or sweet smell…or possibly the feeling of the chair under your ass or an emotion in your chest.

Whatever it is, zoom in and enjoy every detail you can perceive for a few moments… then zoom your focus out into your peripheral senses. You could choose to breath into and savor this larger experience.

Open focus awareness promotes the balanced use of your mind/body complex; activating both the left and right hemispheres of your brain while grounding your attention into the body. Playfully engaging the senses permits you to loosen your grasp on the conscious mind. It puts perspective on thoughts and words which are, by their very nature, driven by figuring out problems and resolving conflict.

The result is an expanded ability to tap into the creative intelligence of your subconscious intuition. Accessing the part of your being that is beyond words and thoughts enables you to drop in to the closest experience of “reality” you have. Allowing yourself to fully feel into the raw sensory input of any given moment, rather than drawing from stale memories of similar situations, lets you quickly and easily adapt to whatever is thrown your way. Calming, clarifying and connecting you with the world… real time.
